Doctor Who: The Jade Pyramid
Thanks to the lovely people at Audio Go I have just received a copy of The Jade Pyramid on CD to review. This is one of those stories written specifically for audio and is read by the eleventh Doctor himself and is a story set in medieval Japan complete with Samurai’s and Ninja’s where a strange energy trace has bought the TARDIS.
There is a temple not far from where the TARDIS lands and, in this temple, is a mysterious jade pyramid, which only the monks of the temple are allowed to see. There is also someone else who wants the pyramid also and he will stop at nothing to obtain it.
The story itself is quite interesting and, what is nice about it is that it setting is a new one for Doctor Who, which is always a plus point to me and always grabs my attention from the start, so that set’s this up for me quite well.
Matt Smith reads the story with gusto, having fun putting on all the different voices of the myriad of characters in the story, however his impersonation of Amy is really not that great (to be honest I have yet to hear a half decent impersonation of Amy and probably won’t until they get Karen Gillan to read this of these stories to be honest), but that’s is only a minor quibble really in what is a well-told and well written story that keeps the listeners interest for just over an hour of listening time.
